6 ft 3? That is one HUGE welterweight. MMA is quickly catching up to the elite level of competition and athletes in boxing.

Best Fight of the Night… Total domination by Kim.

  3. Zacchaeus on May 25th, 2008 7:02 am

Haha, funniest part of that whole 15 min beat down was the fact that the white dude cried a little when the ref stopped it. He should have shook that ref’s hand for stopping that humiliation.

  4. Brian on May 25th, 2008 12:10 pm

He said that he will take the belt from GSP… but the translator never said it.

  5. @Brian on May 25th, 2008 3:42 pm

brian…you know he didn’t, stop posting lies, i don’t know what you’re trying to do.

The translator was garbage. Dong Hyun Kim was asked how he thinks he’ll do against the other welterweights, and he replied that he still has a lot of work to do, but one day he would like to take the belt away from GSP (he said this in a respectful way). I’m a fan of both and I think it could be a great fight in the future as DHK continues to grow as a fighter. If they fought now, total pwnage by GSP. Regarding this fight, DHK’s ground and pound looks nasty, and in my opinion, is alot more aggressive than Yushin Okami, who he trains with. I see a bright future for this kid. Also, GSP > BJ Penn at UFC 58, and if they fight again in the future.

  7. T on May 25th, 2008 4:48 pm

I like this guy a lot more than Okami. Both take advantage of their strength and size, but this guy is a lot more aggressive. Hopefully he’ll win enough fights to be in the top 10 welterweights. Jason Tan probably cried because he might get cut from the UFC. He gets dominated standing with Marcus and dominated on the ground by DHK. No good performances, I think he might get cut from the roster.

“brian…you know he didn’t, stop posting lies, i don’t know what you’re trying to do.”

    I’m not posting lies… I speak korean.

When he was asked about how he thought he ranked up against the other welterweights, he said “I will/look forward to taking the belt from GSP”. But you’re right, I should have clarified that he did not say this in a disrespectful, “I’m the best” manner, he said it in a more respectful and “I’ve got some work to do” way.

Dong hyun did say, “…i still have a lot of work to do, but i will take the belt from GSP oneday…”

    translator really was a garbage

  10. Jae on May 26th, 2008 2:15 am

That Korean translator got it all wrong. The Korean fighter said that he needs more improvement, but he’ll train harder and get an opportunity of a title fight with GSP.

Also, even at the end, the translator got it wrong. The Korean fighter promised the world and the UFC fans and that he will leave his mark in the UFC.

    Proud to be Korean.

They should let knee stricks on the ground. will be much more interesting.

I was watching the replay and I was counting how many elbows he delivered. He delivered more than 200+ elbows just the first min alone he delivered 43 elbows when Tan was holding on to his feet.

regarding the post-interview I did hear him say George St. Pierre but the transalator never translated that part.

Joe Rogan: first of all, congrats on your victory, how do you feel you stack up against the other welterwights in the division?
failure of a translator: how do you compare to welterweights? can you do well or what? [btw, he uses the non-respectful tone, i lolled when he spoke like that to KDH, KDH should have elbowed him in the face]

KDH: I’m lacking in many ways now, but i will work hard and get stronger… and eventually get the belt from GSP [said with respectful tone].
the failure: I have a lot of confidence in my abilities and i think i match up very well with the welterweights in the UFC.

Rogan: … talk us through some of the action in this round…
Failure: watch the screen and please explain to us.

KDH: Because I’ve done Judo for so long I had confidence in the takedown… [?]and i think used my skill effectively[?not sure]
Failure: with my yudo experience, 4th degree blackbelt, i flipped him over the top and slammed him to the ground.

Rogan: … we look forward to seeing you again…
Failure: thank you, they want to see you again

KDH: I will make the UFC fans remember Stun Gun Kim Dong Hyun. [respectful tone]
Failure: I would like to thank the UFC, and i’d like to make them remember the Pusan team, where i’m from, Pusan, South Korea.

  14. Frank on May 27th, 2008 2:40 am

Where did they hire this translator from? As awesome as KDH was, the translator was despicable. Truly sad thing is, this translator got paid for his services. Hopefully, UFC will recognize what happened with translations and replace him fast.

  15. cyoon on May 30th, 2008 12:01 am

That translator messed up like the whole translation.
He can’t speak Korean. Dunno how he got the job.
Anyways a good fight, look forward to Kim.
Oh and respect for Jason Tan for giving everything into the fight.
I’ve wrestled in high school and know that 6 min wrestling matches are tough.
Whoa can’t imagine what fighters go through in a UFC match.

  16. jangy on May 30th, 2008 3:29 pm

    that translator sucks balls

Dong hyun kim was nasty though he pwned that guy cept that he shoulda finished it in the first round his elbows and punches dont seem that heavy

  17. Ghost on June 1st, 2008 7:16 pm

I agree I don’t speak korean but I speak a couple other languages fairly well and I pick up on intonations pretty well. I know I heard him mention GSP I don’t know why the translator left out that part. I appreciate the Korean speakers on here translating that part.

  18. kenny on June 3rd, 2008 3:00 am

lol that translator was sooooo garbage….this kid is awesome…

  19. Steve on June 9th, 2008 5:42 am

He should have gave the translator some elbows.

  20. cooter on June 9th, 2008 12:57 pm

184 cm is about 6 foot 1 inch and a half. either the cm measurements or the inches are off….

  21. Skygge on June 19th, 2008 7:59 am

jason tan is my bjj and mma coach. and it annoys me the fact that youve got these keyboard warriors criticizing fighters like that. seriously, do you think you can do better? i respect kim and tan in that match, but i guess the better guy won.
oh and the translator was pretty bad lol i reckon he did it for a laugh.

  22. Sean's papa on June 21st, 2008 12:08 am

Well, I heard about KDH from friends.
Need more competitive and more powerful activities.
    He has good body condition.
It can be much benefit to get a success.

  23. Ryan on June 24th, 2008 1:02 am

    good fight
great first fight for DHK and props to Jason Tan for being so resilient till the end

  24. Ryan on June 24th, 2008 1:07 am

and I agree with skab that if DHK fought GSP right now he’d get totally owned
but this guy’s got the potential to be a really good fighter

  25. Vince on August 28th, 2008 6:56 pm

  28. Cory Marshall on September 5th, 2008 8:17 pm

Dong Hyun Kim is no doubt the real deal.

South Korea will have ALOT of GAME opponents in MMA for a LONG time. They have some amazing Judo Practicioners.

  29. ilovedong on September 27th, 2008 3:10 am

Anyone ever thought how it feels to have Dong on top of you? I dont think I will be able to get out of that.
