As good as GSP is, he’s not the best finisher. Although he dominated Fitch he failed to finish him off. Anderson Silva would knock GSP out in the first round.

I agree, GSP failed to capitalize many opportunities he got to finish JF. JF has quite a chin. I don’ think GSP has the power to deal with Silva if he move up in weight. I was disappointed when GSP did not pour it on furiously on the ground, after he knock JF down. Instead he kinda taking his time, and JF therefore recovered. Silva must be rocked hard by his opponent power if they want to have a chance to beat him (Silva)and who got the kind of kicking and punching power to do that? Cung Le!

you’re kidding right? when gsp fought bj penn a while back that was a great fight. keep in mind too that that fight was before bj penn adopted a strict training regimen. GSP during an interview after that fight said something along the lines of: “i hope not all my fights are like that, then i’d have a real short career” or something like that. I think that fight lasted all 5 rounds too. if you watch all of GSPs fights to date, BJ was his biggest challenge thus far. in the hughes penn 2 fight, i think bj broke a rib in the first round. i think GSP Penn 2 would be a great fight.

The fight i want to see is GSP verses the champ from the VS. channel Urijah Faber. Both have crazy conditioning and ground and pound but GSP has the size advantage so he will probably win. Still sounds like it could be a nice fight.
GSP looked sharp. Fitch has lots heart though. but just like Joe Rogan mentioned in the commentary, Fitch doesn’t have the tools to beat a GSP.

in the end, each fighter should do what works for them. for example, Anderson Silva is testing the light heavyweight division, but he’s still fighting as a middleweight and currently the champion.
Fitch was a better punching bag than GSP. He was out boxed, out punched, out kicked and out wrestled. And GSP looked more energetic. If you are a Fitch fan, he has the superior chin. What’s happening to the (primary) wrestler background fighters like Couteure, Coleman, Shamrock, Fitch, etc, etc?

I just wanna difuse some of this stuff people are sayin about GSP’s lack of power,finishing skills, and how some of these heavier fighters rockin him. First off lets go back to some of GSP’s early fights when he knocks guys out like Jay Herion, Shean Sherk, And Matt Hughes in there second fight, and then he finished Trigg and Hughes the third time with submissions and tko’d Serra the second time with knees to the body and he never went the distance in TKO in Canada point is that he is an incredible finisher only going the distance a handful of times so shut it about the lack of finishing skills. Then to these heavier fighters such as Silva, Georges is a lot smaller and would definately have trouble with them because he is a natural welter, this is the division he is good and i foresee that he stays there and if he fights Silva it will be a great fight but he will indeed probably lose that fight but he has the best chance out of everyone else period. so thats it on GSP I say he in fact would have to move up in weight for anyone to beat him
GSP is at the top of his game and I don’t see BJ standing much of a chance – period. He is 30-40% stronger than he was last time they fought. BJ is great, just don’t think he can pull off a win over Georges now. GSP can always resort to take downs and win by points if ever, BJ is winning the stand up game. 80% career take down success rate – I rest my case.

Why r u guys hating on gsp for not finishing … Fitch is a great fighter and has beat a lot of the best 170 pounders… Bj is great too but conditioning is key in mma and nobody has the conditioning of gsp so even if bj is in top shape I promise he will still be gased by round 3 due to the explosive pressure that gsp pours on … Gsp all the way … Ps the only way gsp has a shot at silva is if silva goes down to 170 which will never happen…
Also as far as p4p goes GSP is second after Anderson, the spider is just the best fighter in the world there isn’t a single fighter alive who could beat him except MAYBE the elite heavy weights and they would have trouble. Point is Anderson is great GSP is great and BJ is great but Anderson would whoop Georges and Georges would whoop BJ thats they are numbers 1,2 and 3 in the p4p. i can guarantee this all three of them will have to move up in weight to ever see a loss and anderson might have to move up two period.

GSP is a machine he goes in there is a very explosive fighter with incredable standup wrestling and jiu jitsu. Bj would not last very long with him at all he is a good fighter but at the lighter weights if he wants to fight someone he should first try and take on Urijah Faber. If GSP moved up weight he would be just as dominate hes just the best fighter out right now along with fedor and anderson. Just because he couldnt finish fitch does not say anything bad about him it he rocked him and knocked him down so many times fitch just never gave up unlike most fighters who take shots like that. It just proved how tough of an opponent fitch truly was.
Scooba I agree with some of the stuff you say but i don’t think you can base the story of GSP’s career on his loss to Matt Serra. He got caught but definately didn’t look like crap on his feet until he got rocked, true Georges isn’t the most powerful striker in UFC or even the welter weight division but he is the most dynamic fighter UFC and i say that because of the simple fact that he out wrestles wrestlers and out srikes strikers go back to the Jay Herion fight Jay used to be a boxer and Georges out boxed him like he was an amateur, and lets not forget he skipped out on goin to Beijing with the Canadian wrestling team so he could fight Fitch.
Watching that I do not see how GSP did not finish him. Fitch was pretty much in danger the entire time after that second knockdown. If you watch his legs keep buckling the rest of the time. Great fight but seriously GSP how did you not end that!?
I think fitch wasn’t on his first fight, and GSP new that any one could get over exited and get caught reaching in for the finish. GSP just new that fitch has a chin and didnt want to take any chances, to possibly get caught in a mistake. Like with the Serra fight. its obviouse GSP got caught. {it happens to the best}, just like BJ got caught by pulver, and the second time BJ made a highlight reel of him.

Did anybody notice that GSP did not go crazy and rush in carelessly when he knocked Fitch down — after the first knockdown. He actually held Fitch’s end down and kept his body sprawled out. The first time Fitch went down I don’t know how he survived, but surely, you can’t blame GSP for not finishing.
Fitch’s corner said they almost threw in the towel two times, but every time Fitch made it back to his corner he seemed to recuperate — so his corner let it go on.
According to Greg Jackson, the strategy was not to go foolishly charging in as Fitch, in his past fights, offered up his back to his opponents, to only turn it around for a submission.

Btw, in the GSP will destroy BJ. It is that simple. In the first fight BJ tried to detach GSP’s retinal by ramming his thumb into GSP’s eye. Even with that GSP was still able to keep his composure and win a decision.

For all the BJ haters. Letting you know before there BJ joined UFC he was fighting guys twice the size he was and knocking them out. BJ was all party mode fighting hughes and gsp the first time. Hes stopped all that and is ready to win. Without a doubt GSP is one of the best fighters but BJ is nutz when he has a goal. THis will be an awesome fight. We’ll just see who wants it more.
BJ never knocked no 1 out twice his size he fought a couple times at a higher weight class and won except to Machida of course no doubt bj penn was GSP hardest fight but that was a long time ago and both of them are different fighters i believe GSP has increased his skills alot more then BJ and that it will be a great match but GSP will pull it off. I think that this fight was good. It looked like GSP wasn’t really tryng hard as much as doing new moves and having fun. He had a chance to finish fitch but chose not too to make the fight longer for the fans. Gsp is my fav fighter but people saying that BJ will get rocked is probably wrong. BJ has been wanting to fight Gsp for so long that that all he has been dooing is training. Now the last time they fought sure Bj would have won that fight. But if you see bj last fights since then .he has more stamina but same technique.But Gsp is just too strong now and his technique and fighting stategie changes every fight. you dont know wat to expect. GSP took him down at will, as for Anderson VS GSP I think right now GSP could not beat Anderson, but in 2-3 yrs, GSP would pound Anderson, look at the age difference and the amount of yrs GSP has fought in the UFC 4, and Anderson has been fighting in Pride or wherever he fought b4 the UFC and the UFC for a few yrs. BJ @ 170lbs isnt nearly as good as BJ @ 155lbs, @ 170lbs Penn will lose alot of that cardio he has at 155lbs, hes 0-2 in his last 2 fights in WW and only has 1 win in WW, so with that said Penn VS GSP not even going to be what most of u morons think its going to be, trust me. Penn should fitch Fitch or Thiago or Koscheck b4 he gets a chance to fight GSP. Like Dana said “BJ should reconsider staying at 155lbs the way GSP is improving with every fight” OUCH!!!!
And for those who say stupid things about GSP losing to Serra, its a fight 1 punch can change any outcome, and GSP took Serra for granted and learned a lesson, now look at him. I absolutely adore GSP and think he’s an awesome athlete. BUT if he actually did get into the octagon against Anderson Silva I don’t think he’d have a chance. As for BJ Penn vs GSP II, it’ll be interesting to see the outcome. They’re both different and stronger fighters than when they met the first time. We’ll just have to see whose improved more.

Compare Anderon, Fedor, BJ in their first 4 yrs in pride or ufc and they wouldnt touch the resume GSP has, and GSP passed Fitch guard for the 1st time in 6 yrs, and spanked him real good. GSP is the only fighter to have beatin every fighter he has fought, too many of you think Anderson is unbeatable, he hasnt fought the talent GSP has and epecially in his first 4 yrs. GSP in 5 yrs in his prime and at the level Anderson is at now…. GSP will easily defeat Anderson’s reign as top P4P, GSP need more practice but is crazy with how amazing of an athelete he is, my god GSP is the best wrestler in MMA and he has no backround, he spanks all americans, NCAA division 1, and world champ wrestlers, dont know anyone who can beat people who excell in their own division EX: wrestling, yet GSP makes them look like amatures. People, we need to understand the different styles fighters bring to the table in order to understand why GSP would have a better chance to diffeat BJ. Don’t underestimate BJ, if GSP makes a mistake BJ will not forgive. First, Lets look when Bj fought GSP. We saw a BJ out of shape while GSP was at its almost best condition, Bj gave him war first round, 2nd round Bj had little fuel going for him. Now Bj is determine to be in shape so for the most part I cant wait to see this fight!! It can really go both ways. Anderson S. best pound per pound. St Pierre, best pound per pound. Silva has an astonishing power and SMART fighter, likes to test out fighters then attack. St pierre uses their strengh against them so that would for me be one of the greates Super Fights UFC will bring to their FANS!!!

I didn’t want to comment at the time because all of it was just…BS. The GSP hating comments I mean. Look at him now. DESTROYED Bj Penn. He is ONE of the BEST fighters out there. The only one to match him is Anderson Silva. A lot think GSP would get destroyed by him, Come on now. Let’s be real, GSP and Silva would be an incredible fight. I’m a GSP fan all the way but to be real, I DONT KNOW WHO WOULD WIN. If you look at Silva’s loses in pride, they were a submission and a ground and pound beat down. GSP’s ground and pound is extraordinary! But if they stand the whole fight, Silva will take it. It’s a hard one, it can honestly go either way. Period.
