Once again a great fight is left to the hands of the blind judges of the UFC. Not taking anything away from Machida since he is a great fighter in his own right , but I saw Shogun as the true winner of this match. He was the aggressor throughout the entire fight and landed the most blows and in my eyes won the most rounds. It’s such a travesty when you work so hard to only have your hard earned title stolen by the judges.

shogun won…he’s the best pound 4 pound fighter in the world….he’s finally getting back in shape..he looks better every fight…I like rampage but he won’t want any of shogun….

  5. JasonKill on October 25th, 2009 7:18 pm

anyone that thinks that tito is a good fighter should jump off a bridge. Machida is a great fighter that will more then likely hold the belt for awhile. I the best way to win a fight is not to get hit or hurt.. look at anderson silva, he is the best there is at winning without getting hurt. tito can not hold a stick to either of them and youlls ee that when he returns to fight mark coleman,Mark coleman is an old ufc head that will prolly lose the fight but he will show all you tito fans that tito is a punk that is washed up and can not hang with todays new breed of fighters

  6. mma master on October 25th, 2009 7:28 pm

to be the man you must beat the man. can’t just run around and land little kicks all night. this is MMA ,not a kicking game, whoever land the must kicks win, then shogun would be champion.

  7. J on October 25th, 2009 8:52 pm

This makes me think judges in the UFC either have a hidden agenda or are 100% blind I could understand a split decision going to Shogun but all 3 judges for Machida made me want to never watch UFC again.

  8. siby on October 25th, 2009 8:55 pm

    Shogun won

  9. bobby on October 25th, 2009 9:35 pm

  10. villan ste on October 25th, 2009 11:23 pm

  11. villan ste on October 25th, 2009 11:26 pm

I ONLY GOT 2 SEE 4 ROUNDS, BUT FROM WAT I’M READING MACHIDA WON? THATS NOT WAT I SAW THEM FIRST 4 ROUNDS, RUA BACK 2 HIS BEST!!!

  12. Steve on October 26th, 2009 12:00 am

Never leave it to the Judges,,, Rematch!!!

  13. jason on October 26th, 2009 1:49 am

to be the champ u have to beat the champ does not apply in a round by round 10 point must system… i like both these fighters but shogun out struck machida and controlled the octogon the entire fight ..4 to 1 shogun is even being generous…wordt decision in sports history what a sad day for mma

  14. Don Ohio on October 26th, 2009 9:25 am

Machida lost that fight, only bc he champ..reason he got the judges pull on that one!

  15. bobby on October 26th, 2009 12:04 pm

i like them both too, but shogun didnt beat machida the first 3 rounds, i felt it was a draw personally, maybe giving machida the edge in the 3rd round, 4th and 5th, shogun all the way, so it got left to the judges for the 1st 2 rounds and it went against shogun. the rematch i think you’ll see a different fight and were going to see if machida is the invincible fighter he was said to be.

  16. guerillap1mp on October 26th, 2009 1:35 pm

haven’t you guys heard, tito is fighting forrest on the lesner vs carwin undercard

  17. cierra on October 26th, 2009 4:33 pm

honestly and truly i love both fighters they both are good at what they do but that fight went to shogun hands down…no doubt about it!!!!

  18. seify twosacks on October 26th, 2009 7:56 pm

Machida lost UFC should be ashamed.Lets call it theWWE from now on

  19. brian on October 27th, 2009 12:53 am

shogun did not and I repeat did not WIN this fight but he did do a very good job in the fight, he left it up to the judges and the judges did not feel like giving the challenger a round if he did not outright win it and nor should they, he lost it in the 5th round all he had to do was win that round and it was his but he just kept walking around throwing counter kicks and lyotos little birst in the last minute stole the round and broke a even 2 rounds to 2 rounds fight, sucks if you dont like lyotos style or if you like shogun but thats how it goes when you try to win a decision when your the challenger, the only shame is the people who thought maybe shogun would win because of that forrest griffin win over rampage feasco where the judges gave forrest the extra round for doing a good job instead of winning it…

  20. Hagakure on October 28th, 2009 1:55 pm

I think that you guys who think Shogun won are reacting to Joe Rogan’s calling of the fight and not actually seeing what is happening. Sure the fight was close but every time Shogun would even throw something whether or not it landed Joe Rogan reacts like a little girl. You don’t win a tittle on leg kicks. And further, a lot of those leg kicks are counters to body kicks by Machida that landed! Leg kicks for body kicks are not a 1 to 1 exchange rate!

  21. lance lasley on October 28th, 2009 4:15 pm

machida lost that fight hands down worst desicion since matt hamill vs micheal bisbing

  22. roberto on October 28th, 2009 9:46 pm

    SHOGUN WON . THAT’S IT. OK ?

  23. Tbxswagger on October 28th, 2009 10:36 pm

I think Machida won that fight, simply because he countered so much, and did much more than Joe Rogan or Mike Goldberg gave him credit for. They were all like “Shogun Shogun Shogun,” but when Machida would do counter damage, they would just talk about how good Shogun’s leg kick was. It was a very close fight, though. Shogun vs. Silva would be epic.

  24. Alexfromda808 on October 29th, 2009 5:33 am

Even if I was fo lyoto, the fight shoulda gone fo shogun. He was constanly bangin machida, still very dissapointed in machidas performance and in the idiot judges…

  25. Ceas on October 29th, 2009 11:52 am

Alright… 1st of all… look at how many times Shogun got punched in the face after his leg kicks… Machida was countering nearly the whole time. Also, Shogun failed to take Machida down numerous times. Like some of you said, “this is MMA” it’s not just striking. If you try to take your opponent down and fail, guess what, the points go to your opponent, plain and simple. Just because you’re the aggressor doesn’t automatically mean you dominate. For those of you who only watch the sport and have no idea what it’s like to be in the cage, it’s not just about throwing punches and kicks the whole time. A fight is alot like a conversation, you need to know when to speak and when to shut up. This means switching back and forth between being on offense and being on defense. Machida did a great job and moving around and looking for openings and getting his timing down, hence the counter game. He’s the defending champion, he should not have to go in there and try to pound his opponent, he’s in there to defend his title. The example of Anderson Silva was given earlier. He’s the master and moving around and not getting hit. In all honestly that’s all he needs to do. It’s the challenger’s job to go in there and take the championship from the defender. The champion doesn’t need to prove anything.

  26. CaotsIII on October 29th, 2009 4:30 pm

2nd and 3rd round go to machida, 4th and 5th to shogun. 1st is up in the air. The p[eople saying shogun won with out a doubt need to realize that the scoring goes by a round by round basis. The last two rounds shogun dominated but didn’t do quite as much in the other 3. The confusion is understandable. But it mostly all comes down to who did better in the first and that could really go either way. Also, did anyone notice how the commentators were giving absolutely no credit to machida’s strikes almost the entire match?

  27. Matt on October 29th, 2009 11:12 pm

Honsestly, that fight was one-sided. Lyoto made contact on most of his shots, Rua barely made any contact througout the whole fight. Machida’s defense was very good, he defended almost all the kicks, punches, and takedowns thrown. I also saw like 10+ knees by Machida, so idk who says he didn’t win, but… he did.

  28. dukesh on October 31st, 2009 7:56 am

guys..1 this sport rules are made almost to define who is the strongest if they were to fight in the street with almost no rules fight…so,low kicks if it didnt knock u down , it is useless but one strong punch in the face or a decent submission could end it which rua didnt & lyoto did half of it.
2-it is a hidden rule in any sport…to defeat a champion u have to beat him not 51 to 49% its not a business math equation u have to be at least 52 to 48 % cz the champ. gave u ths opportunity to fight him as he has to be maintained all the time to face many challengers n anytime ..did u get it?
3- rule judges anticipate if they gave them a no limit time who cd win…and ths is the only point that machida lost to.
i like both guys but judging is very difficult in normal people’s eyes ;)

  29. master swagger on October 31st, 2009 2:40 pm

look at the face of Lyoto Machida at the end of the fight his face was all torn up everywhere because Shogun’s hits to the face did way more damage than any of Lyoto’s weak counter punches and he was breathing heavily from those body kicks plus he was limping from the countless leg kicks.

look at shogun in the end of the fight he almost looks untouched and the one time lyoto went after him and actually connected shogun blocked all his hits and hit him with a big counter right hand.

Shogun dominated the fight lyoto paid the judges.

  30. master swagger on October 31st, 2009 2:42 pm

    Lyoto got owned

  31. master swagger on October 31st, 2009 2:44 pm

if machida’s strike defense was so good then why is his face so messed up at the end?
and why did shogun look untouched?

  32. infg3570 on November 1st, 2009 8:52 am

Wow – that was highway robbery.. Some say that kicks don’t win a fight??? Don’t ask the judges, ask Lyoto’s legs and ribs. I personally don’t like his fighting style, but in his prior fights, he won pretty much uncontested. But still, Shogun was robbed.

  33. dosan on November 5th, 2009 9:07 am

that’s a real karate style (kumite), kind of boring but DEADLY.

  34. brian broussard on November 5th, 2009 12:19 pm

I saw the fight and know way that machida won that fight..I think that maurico won every round..He was way more agressive, took charge and staid coming forward..I dont know what the jugdes saw but the fans are the real jugdes and we know who realy won that fight!!!!!

  35. laurent on November 6th, 2009 4:48 am

i think that it’s crying shame!!! Shogun to richly deserve to win!!!

Rua “shogun” won, let’s keep it real. Machida is a great fighter, but in all do fairness he lost that fight… We need new judges.

  38. keith on November 16th, 2009 11:08 pm

I like Machida. I wanted him to win, but from what I saw Shogun dominated almost the entire fight. He didn’t only land leg kicks. He also got a few elbows in, and a few good punches. He blocked Machidas head kicks. The only thing that hurt him was the knees that Machida landed. If you still think that Machida won look at the faces of both compitors when they are announcing the winnner of the fight. Machida is bloody, and Shogun doesn’t have a scratch.

  39. Mike on November 17th, 2009 11:32 pm

Lyaoto definetely won. Here is my scores of meaningful strikes/punches/kicks. I do not consider the aggressiveness as something deserving scoring, often it is just a very bad thing and a sign of readneckness:

    Round 1: Machida 10; Shogun : 5
    Round 2: Machida 8 ; Shogun : 2
    Round 3: Machida 14 ; Shogun : 3
    Round 4: Machida 8 ; Shogun : 2
    Round 5: Machida 2 ; Shogun : 4

So I consider Machida’s self assesment to be correct. 4:1 Machida won.
Do not listen to these comentators, looks like they were paid to affect people’s opinion in favor of Shogun. Who paid them I do not know. Clearly, it was pre-meditatively bias. Why I think they were paid? Just because obviously both of them dismissed all Machida’s attackes and gave undeserved attention to Shogun leg/body flashng kiks (mostly blocked and countered). One person can just be mistaken, but 2 people saying the same BS are definitely paid for that (or may be intimidated to do this).

Those guys who look at face marks to determine a winner lok at teh face of Fedor Emelyanenko, which was pretty much marked by Rogers who was miseraoly beaten by Fedor.

In the rematch, if happen, Rua will be Ruined by Machida

After machida beats shogan nex time, machida needs to leave dana, who uses and disposes people, and go to strkeforce.
