bad fight . matt hughs looked very weak very soft like tito. poor fight for hughs. alvs ahhhhh looked ok nothing great poor fight boo
Hughes got whooped. Alves is just another level.
hughes may be done
Hughes is washed up. And Alves would get EATEN by GSP!
worst main event ever..
Matt’s heart doesn’t seem to be in it anymore. Maybe a weight change is needed. Something has to get him going again or it’s time to call it quits.
BRASIL dominate UFC 85 !
Thiago is much better tah Math !
I’ve only seen the main card, and for me, the fights were very poor. The UFC didn’t deliver.
Maybe Rogan was right, that Alves may be a little stronger not having met the 170 weight and Hughes may be a little weaker for having met the weight.
Hughes, to me, looks like his days are numbered if he doesn’t stay motivated. I think Hughes thinks that since he has defended the belt mutliple times, the UFC will continue to bring him back, loss or win, great performance or poor performance
Alves did do very well but Hughes’ form and performance looked geriatric.
The Werdum/Vera fight was a little controversial. Vera covered up and Werdum kept on with the barrage of punches. Most of the other referees say, “Defend yourself, or I’m gonna stop the fight”, “Do something”, or something of the like and Vera didn’t do anything. Sure he may have been fine, but covering yourself for 10 or more seconds isn’t, in my opinion, defending yourself intelligibly. These controversies are good for the sport because they allow the tinkering of rules and more specific clarification. The Irvin/Alexander fight is another good example; Irvin delivered a Superman punch which knocked Alexander off his feet and Irvin threw a few more punches which then rendered Alexander unconscious. The ref SHOULD stop the fight if he discerns a fighter to be unconscious, whether or not the fighter comes to seemingly instantaneously. So these types of examples helps the UFC add more rules and clarify them.
Anyway…
I am a ufc fan, but after watching the last 2 or 3 pay per views its obvious that the top fighters do not have enough fights a year, they are boring fights w/ one dominating the other and both fighters not showing their ability in fear of getting K,O’d, on pay per view and being a hi-lite real…on the other hand WEC is where it’s at for the hard core fight fans ….Miguel Torres and that jap guy was one of the best fights this year, not to mention it was live and FREE!!!!!
è o Brasil dominando o MMA americano… Tiago faz dieta filho.rs
Erasmo ,what the f*&K is your point? DUUUUURRR!
thiago is good young fighter, he is early in his career and will continue to get better and better. as for him comparing to GSP, there is no question George will give him the devastating taste of defeat. GSP is the elite in MMA right now and there are few on this level. I see GSP holding that belt for a while as well as A.Silva holding his. Thiago reminds me of a young GSP a great fighter on his rise to greatness.
that torres fight on wec wasnt even the best fight on the card. That was prolly the single best mma event ive ever seen. The pulver faber fight def lived up to the hype, u seen a lil of everything in it.
as for ufc they need monthly free events like wec and maybe 3 or 4 ppv events a year that are truly good cards, not silva destroying jardine.
Why do you post a picture of the winner above every video? It spoils the fight for those who haven’t seen it!
I was rooting for Hughes. Alves is an ok fighter, still haven’t seen anything spectacular from him. Hughes seems to not have any motivation to dominate, and he can. I think he got a little comfortable with the fact that he went undefeated for so long. Just like when GSP took Serra lightly and paid dearly for it. Alves has no chance against GSP, he dominated Hughes with ease. Their first fight GSP was anxious and careless, the second fight showed how much GSP matured and also showed the arrogant side of Hughes. Not only did Hughes not train hard enough on the ground, he was so bored with taking people to the mat that he wanted to knock people out. There third fight just showed how GSP isn’t taking anyone lightly, and also showed the age and determination lacking on Hughes. On another note, I think that was a pretty lame excuse for not making the weight on Alves’ side. My ankle hurts so I can’t make weight or train hard enough, what a wuss. That just shows the heart of him. How hard is it to train on one foot or run with one foot. Sure would make him work harder. Lazy bastard. I would definitely like to see the Serra vs Hughes fight, there is so much hostility between them. I also agree with Brandon, GSP is gonna reign like Anderson Silva. Don’t agree with MN MIKE, last time I recall not many of the PRIDE fighter have been able to stand in the UFC, or last.
For those of us whom actually have been in the sport, we know that Hughes is one of the best fighters ever, however it comes a point in time in every fighters life when you realize that there is always somebody faster, somebody stronger, somebody younger out there. Thnx for the mems Matt
Seeing the winner before the fight sucks… agreed that this is probably the worst main event I’ve ever seen
we have to be real now i think that vera and werdum stoppage was justified. vera could not get out of that position and if the ref didnt stop it he was just gonna keep getting punched. werdum is a better ground fighter thanto vera and he weighed 20 pounds heavier than brandon on fight day so how the hell is vera gonna get him off a mount. vera doesnt listen all his fans tell him to go to light heavyweight but he chooses not too even though he is too small for heavy weight. i personnally now think he is a bit overated like come on now who has he beat thats actually good and we can see clearly that if he comes toward an opponent that is way bigger than him he’s gonna have problems.
This fight was bull from the start. Alves didn’t even make weight which is a big deal in competitive fighting. Not making weight makes you look weak, but he also was estimated to be weighing 195 pounds by some at the time of the fight, Hughes probably wasn’t much more than 180, if at all.
By the way im from the us and have no preference over Brazilian Peruvian Or American fighets, GO SPARRING!!, peace.
Making weight is the name of the game. A college wrestler who doesn’t make weight DOESN’T wrestle. I know I had to cut weight for 4 years in high school PLUS 4 years in college. Making weight SUCKS and can really sap a guys strength. I’ll bet Matt had to drop + – 14 pounds to make weight. I’ll also bet Alves didn’t have to cut nearly what Matt did and he could do it. He didn’t have the sack and discipline. Saying that his ankle hurt is a MAJOR COPE OUT.
How about everyone stop complaining about mmaroot posting a picture above the post. IT IS FREE, YOU UNGRATEFUL DUNCES WITH THE BRAIN FUNCTION SIMILAR TO BOWEL MOVEMENTS.
This fight was fixed!
Matt Hughes is not out of his league at all it’s that he lost his edge his fighting spirit anyone whos watched his old fights can see that look at his body build here to when he fought Royce Gracie Matt was in phenomenal shape he just doesn’t want to train like he used to he has also become very religious i hate seeing all these other fighters talk crap on him when in his prime he could beat anyone they put in front of him (in WW of course)
Right now there has been a string of excellent Brasilian fighters. No doubt. I will say, however, fighters with college and/or higher level of wrestling background are by far superior athletes: aerobically better, physically more powerful, and posessing much more strength endurance. I predict that when the current crop of American adolescent wrestlers (junior high, high school and college) start early cross training in jiu jitsu, American wrestlers with be dominant.
P.S.: I still stick to my prior post. Thiago can’t claim to have won unless he made weight. He should not rejoice in his “accomplishment”. In fact he should make a public announcement stating that he really isn’t the winner. I think he is kinda a coward to take recognition for this fight.
Woah, Hughes needs to retire because he just got handled. He’s a one-trick pony at this point that had a good career but is gonna get hurt if he keeps at it. Alves is a juice-monkey monster.
thiago will fight the winner out of gst and gitch
I’m not sure what was wrong with Matt but I definitely agree with ol’ boy that said GSP would eat Alves alive.

Before Matt leaves we need to see Matt Hughes vs Matt Sera, to finish the grudge match they never had. lol but yea thats what I dont really like about the UFC crouds is that they Booo and are direspectful.
hughes in a main event come on! his done!
he was the champ for so long because in those times there were just a few real fighters! i mean carlos newton was the best after matt come on! every saw what happens when bj penn come to the welterweioghts beat hughes! just lije that! the ufc always give him so many chances after he lost the belt every time , ufc 46 lost the belt , ufc 48 beat some random fighter , ufc 50 beat gsp LUCK! and the belt! , ufc 65 lost again the belt , next fight cris lytle come on he was losing figh after figh ofcourse he won by decision boring figh and next fight title fight AGAIN! but if serra would fight he would win agains serra but thanks to gsp who came and beat ones and for old hughes! gsp is the ******* MAN ! HE FIGHTS ALWAYS THE TOP CONTENDERS! karo parisyan ,hughes , trigg , sherk , bj penn , kos , fitch , serra! and he is the champ!!
thiago got a chance if he beat diego to fight gsp i think thiago would be the most dangerous fighter for gsp and penn but gsp will rise again!
where is the rest of the video?!
I love to watch this video of Thiago Alves demonstrating his superior strength, power and killer instinct over Matt Hughes. Hughes may have lost some power, strength and will, but i think Thiago would have ended Matt’s career, even if Matt was 10 years younger and in the best shape ever. Thiago is just superior. I think Hughes went into the fight with a plan to avoid a prolonged vicious and brutal beating from Alves. Hughes knew Alves would easily destroy him.
Anyone who thought that fight started equal has never competed when you had to cut weight. Thiago was 4 lbs over weight, yea, Hughes took the fight but another 4 lbs off of Thiago and he is isn’t as strong. Unless you have cut a substantial weight and competed againts a top notch athlete you have little idea of the advantage. Hats off to Hughes for stepping up and taking the fight knowing he would be at a huge disadvantage.
I wanna see GSP vs. Alves. GSP would rip his balls off.
the only thing i hate about the ufc is the rules no hitting in the back of the head no head butting ofcourse there shouldnt be groin hits or eye gouging but the other two should be allowed its apart of fighting
Matt Hughes looks like a ladyboy in that fight.
i am suprised so many people thought matt was washed up when alves got an extra 4 pounds for this fight i wonder what his weight was when he stepped in the cage if he was 174 at the weigh in
GSP is going to have his hands full with Thiago but I think he will take it . He is bad ass. Oh the head butting is a bad idea. Ive done some nasty damage to a few with that move and its not pretty.
