lol the little peck on the lips at the end…
exactly how i predicted it “tapout 1st rnd” Maia
Freaking awesome BJJ…
WOWOWOWOWOW a middleweight Shinya Aoki with better striking.
You mean Dustin Hazelett is the Shinya Aoki with better striking.
Maia vs Silva……. UFC PLEASE make it happen!!!!!!!!!!
Maia vs Silva….UFC PLEASE make it happen!!!!
That is world class a ground game right there… thee is no one in the UFC that is even remotely close to Maia in terms of ground game besides Bj Penn i would say.
Im a Nate Quarry fan… unfortunately you just cant prepare for a world champion BJJ player within a few months.
I agree whole heartedly with mark other than I h8 the lazy hawaiian .
Fu** Penn!!!
Gotta’ respect his skillz but F*** his lazy a$$ none the less!
I dont think Maia is ready for Silva yet, he may get KO without even take it to the ground.
Hot Lips!
Hot Kiss!!!
Maia is the future MW champion i’m tellin you
definitely needs to develop some striking abilities but if he can take Anderson Silva to the ground it’s all over
He is the Minotauro of the Middleweight division
…Only if he proves to have an iron chin, which he doesn’t. And crisp boxing, which is yet to be seen, but I’m sure he’s working on it.
Comparing him to Nog is just a bit of a stretch, but otherwise I agree with your statement.
His ground game is probably enough to give Nogueira himself a headache. He is absolute beast on the ground, where it’s all about positioning and sinking in the right holds. Weight is a factor only in the wrestling, and leverage factor for some holds, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Maia got the better of Nog in a hypothetical “best of 10″ bjj duel. He’s beaten Jacare and Gonzaga, for example, that’s what I know off the top of my head. Look up the videos on youtube.
In a straight BJJ competition, Maia would embarass Anderson Silva. No doubt about it, it’s actually quite difficult to deny.
But the problem is; this isn’t a BJJ competition. He has to get Silva on the ground, something I believe is actually quite likely to happen, but you just never know. For example, Lutter and others were able to take Anderson down and make it look easy. Maia has shown a relentless takedown, and he doesn’t hesitate to pull guard, something only elite grapplers are willing to do. Strikers refuse to be on their backs, even wrestlers. So that’s what makes Maia’s takedown a little more versatile and I’m cofident he can bring the fight to the ground.
But any strike Silva throws at Maia’s face could be the KO punch or knee to end the fight, so you have to realize that, being MMA, this would be a particularly difficult fight to bet on and I wouldn’t advise it unless Maia is such a huge underdog that it wouldn’t hurt to throw $20-100 on it =)
It would be a mind-blowingly entertaining fight, to see the clash of two titans in their respective styles — an elite striker with a black belt in jiujitsu VS. an Abu Dhabi BJJ wizard-turned-MM Artist
Just nod your heads, sorry for the rant =) 1st post on this site. (Lurker for a year)
maia hes good but not as good as some people think. he struggled wit my buddy macdonald in pretty much a bjj match and macdonald aint no backbelt. if he were to fight some1 like silva he would get eatin
Greenmachine I worded it perfectly unless you have a brain deficiency.
go maia i say next fight against Ricardo Almedia.
yeah a match with almeida, who was almost a title contender would definetly move him up the ranks a bit, plus it’d be a great bjj matchup.
no one talks down on bj penn on my watch roofliss he knows about conservation of energy and motion i cant even imagine the brilliant tactics in that guys head these guys are like scientist he doesnt train on the mainland because of the mental and physical pollution this guys game is deep
When i look at demian maia, it’s the first time i actually think someone could give lots of problems to anderson silva, those two would match up very well. The phenomenal striker with very good ground game against the phenomenal ground artist (top three in the world) with good stand up skills. I love anderson silva but when i see someone with too much facilities, i tend to root for the underdog, i hope this fight happens and if it does happen, i ll be rooting for demian.
Was that a kiss at the end. I always thought it was strange that they all hugged each other after a fight; now kissing? Hopefully it stops short of making out, I might not be able to watch mma anymore.
