See this is what happens. The more they give Gomi unranked opponents, the more Gomi thinks he can slack off. When he was constantly facing top competition, he was always in good shape and looked impressive, then they start giving him easy guys and he starts to look very lackluster and slow.

Gomi’s fault for letting it go to the judges. He should be putting away these inferior opponents which really don’t seem so inferior. Gomi needs a big wake up call.

Gomi’s at his best against top competition, he didn’t take Sergey seriously and payed for it by putting on an less than satisfactory performance. Sure he got robbed, but that’s what happens when you leave it to the judges. HOPEFULLY this was a learning experience and he goes at it 100% against Satoru Kitaoka in January to get that sexy-ass Sengoku belt.

Hung & Bled I hope you’re right. Lately he’s been getting these chumps and he keeps getting less and less impressive. I remember when he had to constantly fight top competition in PRIDE, and it made him at the top of his game. I remember after his back to back losses against Hansen and Penn, he upped his game like mad, he went on a rampage and beat Gracie, Pulver, Kawijiri, Sakurai, Baron, and Ishida(sorry if I spelt any wrong). Then he got the fight against Diaz which probably to him was a step down in competition and he gassed bad and got caught in the gogo. From there it all went downhill… like he’s more cautious and on top of that he gets chumps which he takes lightly as in the case with Diaz. *Maybe the Yakuza had something to do with the judges because of all the betting money people had on Gomi

Gomi and Kid are the most protected japanese fighters in mma. Finally they are giving them some better competition. Kid has fought 0 contenders and Gomi was destroyed by BJ and Marcus

great points, gomi needs to fight top level competition and he definitely won the 1st and 3rd. You can’t even make the case of a 10-8 round in the second, which only would have resulted in a draw. Robbery.

Gomi easy won the 1st and 3rd round

The thing that most people forget and people here seem to be forgetting is that they don’t use the 10 point must system. They use a different way of scoring, so even if you see it 2 rounds to 1 that makes no odds.

Not 100% on how they score but they clearly gave preference to the ability to hurt (in the 2nd round) over the mount and submission attempts. Even with that judging I think Gomi had this fight just due to his superior positions and good ground work. As they say though, never leave it in the hands of the judges, that’s when things like this happen.

    yo man this is BULL!!

Gomi just haven’t been the same as of late… he needs to step it up for sure. Is he even ready for the tournament winner?

Golyaev won fair and square. Gomi didn’t actually land many of his shots in the first and lost a lot of momentum during the second. Again in the 3rd he didn’t land many.

I agree with everyone else here, Gomi was robbed, Sergey had that one knock-down that fazzed Gomi in the second, but Gomi was obviously the agressor of the fight with Sergey on the counter-attack, Gomi got the mount 3 or 4 times and made some sub attempts, he landed dozens of leg kicks, and even landed a few grazing hooks, i really am upset with these judges

  18. Bryan on November 3rd, 2008 12:27 am

all these people talking about him winning 1st and 3rd and 10-8 rounds and such are morons. they score the fight as a whole and don’t even use the 10 point must system you ******* tuf noobs.

  19. Bryan on November 3rd, 2008 12:29 am

ps gomi looked absolutely terrible even if they gave him the gift decision hes still a has-been and would get tooled by most of the top guys at 155 in the world today. penn would absolutely murder him.

  20. hefrod on November 3rd, 2008 2:11 am

LOL Gomi is like Tyson he is now over rated and finished. He will become a hasbeen very soon.

His training is now media watched and for show, his heart is full of money, and he is average at best now.

  21. HERKULEEZ on November 4th, 2008 1:31 am

BULL sergey outboxed him like gomi was an amatuer, gomi sucked real good on this fight.

  22. paddedummy on November 4th, 2008 2:48 am

Wtf? This is japanese mma, Golyaev should have gotten yellow cards and then disqualified for not engaging

  23. dangerfield on November 4th, 2008 11:09 am

Isn’t WVR judged the same way Pride use to be where the fight is judged as a whole and not round by round???

If so It doesn’t matter whther Gomi won round 1 and 3 or not but rather how much he won those rounds by compared to how badly he lost round 2.

Personally i think under those rules Gomi lost had it been in the UFC or other org that scores round by round then Gomi won or it was a draw.

  24. fuck u haters on January 2nd, 2009 5:21 pm

Gomi got robbed big time. Anyone who says otherwise is stupid. 10 pt system or not gomi got robbed. If they did the 10 pt system, 1st and 3rd goes to Gomi, 2nd could even arguably go to Gomi, beside the one punch that dazed Gomi for a second he recovered well and finished off the round stalking kolyaev and throwing leg kicks. Before he got caught in the second round he constantly stalked kolyaev and landed punches and kicks. So even if you look at the whole fight Gomi still put up a better fight. No doubt this was not his best fight and he is capable of doing better. He did look better with his conditioning, unlike the diaz fight where he was just gassed only after a few minutes. Whoever said Gomi is like tyson must be complementing gomi than, tyson is a legend for boxing so stfu. Gomi will definitely have a come back he just needs a little motivation.
